Technical Notes La Soufrandière (Vineyard Pilosophy)
No compromise, no taboo, this is our « Vineyard Philospohy » for the work we perform in our vines of La Soufrandière .

Old vines aging from 28 to over 80 years, facing South-East on exceptional clay/limestone terroir
No irrigation (in accordance with the applying decree of Appellation)
Average yield of 40 hl/ha (in 2001, 2002 and 2003) as opposed to the tolerated  50 hl/ha + 20% legal supplement (PLC ) = 60 hl/ha
All our soils have been ploughed since the end of 1999 (without herbicides)
Since 2004, a small ultra light caterpillar tractor (700 kg/0.77 US ton) has been used for all ploughing
Only products that are accepted by Biological Agriculture since early 2000 are used
Progressive conversion to Biological Agriculture since 2003 (certification ECOCERT)
Biodynamic Agriculture since 2001 in all our vineyard
To avoid tamping down our ploughed soils and to respect their microbiological life, all work (other than ploughing and treatment) are performed by hand in our vines : winter pruning, trimming, de-budding, tying-up, tilling of the soil
Treatment in the the vineyard are done by spraying with an ultra-light caterpillar tractor (350 kg/0.385 US ton) between the rows
Tiny quantities of natural compost (accepted by Biological Agriculture) are used
Dead vine stocks are always replaced using grafted stocks from our own selection (sélection massale). No clones
